Our 2020 Sport for Life Summit Recap
It’s been an exciting couple of weeks here at Interpodia. We are currently back in our North Vancouver office after a week of exhibiting, presenting and sponsoring the 2020 Canadian Sport for Life Summit. We’d love to share some of the highlights of the event as well as offering a quick recap of our ‘Celebrating Effective Safe Sports Systems’ presentation which focused on risk management of sport organizations and clubs.

What the Canadian Sport for Life Summit is all about.
The Sport for Life Canadian Summit is an event that brings together leaders who work to enhance the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada. Interpodia is proud to be gold sponsors of this year’s Canadian Sport for Life Summit event.
The event was well attended with more than 500 guests present including sector leaders and representatives from various sports organizations across Canada. The attendees came together to celebrate the success of ongoing sports development. It united individuals with the common goal of strengthening communities, boosting sports achievement, and improved risk management in sport.
The Sport for Life Summit promotes collaboration as a means to help achieve our shared goals. At Interpodia we are so proud to have been involved in this important event and we hope our presence has helped make a difference in the Canadian sporting community.
Interpodia's International Reception
The Sport for Life Summit kicked things off with Interpodia’s International Reception. Over 10 nations were represented from all corners of the world including Guatemala, British Virgin Islands and Egypt. We were honored to hear presentations from several guest speakers including Canadian Olympian, Catriona Le May Doan, who emphasized the importance of encouraging children to participate in multi-sport events to prevent injury, burnout and improve overall mental and physical health.

We were also excited to learn about an important initiative launched by Sport for Life in collaboration with Karim Ghabbour, CEO of the Egyptian manufacturing company, MCV. The project involves the designing and building of a world class sports academy for children just outside of Cairo. The 12+ acre facility will contain two 25 meter pools, shallow pools, running tracks, tennis courts, soccer fields and more.
Sport for Life is honored to be a part of the creation of the Cairo Sports Academy which will be welcoming its first group of kindergartners in September of 2020.
Celebrating Effective Systems: Safe Sport
For those who were not in attendance of our presentation “Celebrating Effective Systems: Safe Sport” which focused on risk management, here is a summary of what took place.
Led by CEO Phil Mowatt, the presentation touched on the factors of safe sports policies and procedures. These include…
- The End Users: The athletes, parents, coaches and officials
- The Suppliers: The timing, learning management and technology systems
- The Governing Bodies: Federations, insurance companies and national policies and laws
Although there are many conversations that could be discussed involving these factors, the presentation focused on the athlete registration process that includes waiver collection, age verification and de-duplication measures. The emphasis was on providing safe standards through your registration processes and maintaining a cohesive tracking of progress moving forward.
At the end of the presentation, all participants, which included representatives from national and provincial bodies, were asked to fill out a Risk Management Audit. Created in collaboration with Markel, our new official insurance partner, the audit allowed organizations to review their athlete registration and coach and official licensing procedures to determine how effective they are in mitigating risk.
